Infection Control
The office of Drs. Phipps, Levin, and Hebeka always meets or exceeds the established guidelines for infection control and patient safety. We strive to protect both our patients and our staff. All treatment areas are cleaned and disinfected between patients, and all instruments are sterilized and/or disinfected between uses. Disposable masks and gloves, and eye protection are also worn by our doctors and clinical staff.
Over twenty-five years ago, the American Dental Association (ADA) Foundation's Health Screening Program helped identify Hepatitis B as an occupational hazard in Dentistry. The ADA responded by being the first to recommend that dentists follow standard infection control procedures, and subsequently worked with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to develop CDC's own infection control recommendations for Dentistry. Since then, our office updates our infection control procedures as the ADA and CDC have updated their recommendations to reflect new scientific knowledge and the growing understanding of the principles of infection control.
The proper sterilization of instruments and materials requires sterilizer (autoclave) monitoring. This is an essential part of our office infection control program; by using a combination of mechanical, chemical, and biological indicators we regularly assess the efficiency of our sterilizers to assure regulatory compliance and your safety.
We invite you questions at any time concerning infection control.
